Woodturning

Woodturning became a passion when I started turning (on a lathe) instead of sanding and hand-planing the Native American style flutes I made. The flute’s final shape is round and there are many paths to that shape. Using a lathe is the best method.

After turning about 100 flutes on the lathe, I then turned weed pots, bowls and platters.  Platters, or wide-rimmed bowls, have become a favorite to turn especially with some of the beautiful Florida woods.

Some woods are perfect for pyrography (wood burning) as can be seen by the “Wren Song” platter in the slides below.
