Happy Make Music Day

International Music DayHappy World Music Day!

What a great way to recognize the importance of music and its ability to bring people together.

World Music Day (also called Make Music Day) started in 1982 when the Ministry of Culture in France launched the Fête de la Musique (“festival of music”). The event was a day of free, live music that could be anywhere and with everyone participating.

The event is now held on June 21 each year in more than 800 cities in 120 countries.

You can check to see if an event is happening in your city or town. Gainesville is celebrating the event with musical performances, including the Ukulele Club of Gainesville, at Depot Park.

If you can’t attend an official Make Music Day event, you can celebrate yourself – or with friends.

If you have one of my WrenSong flutes or kanteles, you can pick it up and start playing. That’s what I’m going to do right now.

Wishing you a day of music and harmony.

The Gainesville Flute Circle provides flute players the opportunity to gather for music making on the second Monday of the month at the Millhopper Public Library.
