Pyrography Magazine included one of my Night Song Flutes in the Gallery section of the latest edition.

How exciting to have my work featured in a magazine that I have so enjoyed reading.

The Gallery Editor for the magazine contacted me several months ago to say the magazine wanted to include my flute pyrography work and to send her photos.

When I went to the bookstore last week, the Spring issue was there.

I bought my first issue of the magazine five years ago when I became interested in pyrography and was researching which wood burning system to purchase.

From there, my interest in pyrography expanded, and I’m delighted with the texture and creative outlet that pyrography adds to my handcrafted wood items.

Pyrography Magazine introduced me to many pyrography artists.

Orchid Davis, who regularly teaches pyrography classes at the Campbell Folk School,  specializes in nature renderings. I had the opportunity to meet her and learn wood burning techniques from her.

Sue Walters, a pyrography artist from Australia who has several excellent books on developing pyrography skills.

Lora Irish, has an outstanding collection of help articles online for those starting out in wood burning.

Inspired by what was possible with pyrography, I took a class at Arrowmont School of Arts and Craft with pyrography artist Molly Winton. The class focused on turning small vessels and then woodturning for texture. I learned to design my own patterns for wood burning.

The flute featured in Pyrography Magazine is one of my Night Song Flute series that features petroglyph/pyroglyph and raven woodburnings.

The woodburning, carving, stain and Tiger Eye stone give the Night Song Flutes a unique look. And the song of each of the Night Song Flutes matches the look with a rich tone.
