The December meeting of the Gainesville Flute Circle provided us the opportunity to play our Native American-style flutes and get into the holiday spirit by playing some Christmas carols including “I Saw Three Ships” and “Silent Night.”
We had fun with flute dialogues and conversations. We had partners and developed a storyline and then played the story with flutes. Working through this activity develops spontaneity and improvisational skills.

We added the ukulele to our flute playing this week. And of
course, several percussion instruments.
Our Flute Artist of the Month was Cornell Kinderknecht.
We listened to Cornell’s version of the “Coventry Carol” and talked about his flute technique.
I told the story of receiving a flute lesson from Cornell at Flute Haven — but the lesson was in front of about 75 Flute Haven participants.
We’ll be back for the Gainesville Flute Circle 2015 on Monday, Jan. 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Millhopper Library Room B.

Hope you’ll be playing the flute to add to the joy of the holiday season.
Good to hear. Celebrating the season on musical instruments of any kind is a great way to share the spirit!
